This book earned the author the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award in 2017, for writings in English. The book is a work of fiction based in Arunanchal Pradesh, but is inspired by factual historical events that took place around the mid-19th century.
It gives a deep and probing insight into the how colonialism permanently disturbed and distorted the lives of its colonies. The story is defined by the turbulent love of two lovers, a priest who loves his priestly calling, and the love and hate between rival tribes and communities, and how all of these emotions come together. The story moves at an unhurried pace, and takes you along with it on a richly-imagined descriptive journey, that can color your imagination while retaining the theme of the time to which it belonged.
