How To Write Flash Fiction: An Online Workshop

The Art Of Flash Fiction

How To Write Flash Fiction An Online Workshop

Flash is a great stepping stone to writing fiction, but its brevity is deceptive. In its range and variety, flash fiction presents many challenges:

How do you create dramatic urgency despite the low word count?

Can you make the reader laugh and cry within a short space?

How do you create a story arc within flash fiction?

Is it possible to generate workable flash pieces in a short span of time?

This online weekend workshop will teach you how to write flash fiction and will be taught by Damyanti Biswas, author of You Beneath Your Skin. Damyanti will facilitate a supportive and encouraging environment, which would be useful for beginning and intermediate fiction writers. This class is based on the belief that a supportive environment allows us to take creative risks, that we can be our own editors, and our best work often comes from play.

What you’ll get from the session:

  • Writing prompts to generate compelling flash fiction
  • The ability to write striking beginnings and satisfactory endings
  • Compression techniques—how to use language to say more with few words
  • Notes on how to revise your own work
  • Generate one or more drafts of flash fiction
  • On-the-spot feedback on fiction generated
  • Specific reading recommendations: the best way to learn flash is to read it

Who this session is for:

  • Anyone right from beginner to intermediate level can join
  • Bloggers who would like to step into fiction
  • Anyone with an interest in short fiction

  • I've thoroughly enjoyed the sessions hosted by Michelle and Tara. Their knowledge and sheer love for books and literature make the classes interesting and interactive. I've had the opportunity to get such different and intriguing perspectives on varying topics from them and aspiring writers. It's been an enriching experience in a short span of time.  The topics for sessions/workshops are intelligently chosen, providing ample opportunities to participants to share ideas, theories and the like. Analysis, reasoning, styling, and editing are some of the active discussions that occur with like-minded folks.  Thus far, I've attended sessions on How to Edit Your Book (Tara), How to Read Like A Writer (Tara), and a 2-Week Advanced Fiction Class (Michelle). Looking forward to many more and a long-lasting relationship with Bound. Happy to have found you.      ”
