Manuscript Evaluation Programme

BOUND'S MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION PROGRAMME

We are excited to launch the Manuscript Evaluation programme, through which writers can find out if their works-in-progress have potential, how to work on their manuscripts and whether their submission package is up to scratch. Our writers' works are as dear to us as they are to them!

We provide candid, constructive, and thorough feedback on your manuscript’s condition and its literary and commercial potential. The idea isn’t to callously judge a work or its writer but to give you a professional book editor’s perspective on what works, what doesn’t work or could work better, and what you might consider doing to give your manuscript the best chance of marketplace success. This feedback helps inform your revision process and bring clarity to your goals.

Once we’ve read your manuscript, provided written feedback, and discussed that with you by phone or email, you’ll have a much better sense of where your work stands in relation to relevant industry standards, what you need to work on, and what editorial course may be appropriate.

Beta Reading

Beta readers’ is just a fancy way to say test readers, really. We will give you a 1-page report that will tell you whether the story works, if it has promise and whether you should invest in the second and third drafts.

Manuscript Critique

This service is more thorough and  detail-oriented. The five page editorial letter covers feedback on a range of issues, including : pacing; flow of narrative; transitions; voice; plot; structure; dialogue; character development; audience; potential market.

Submission Critique

How can you give your work its best chance when you submit it to agents or publishers? This service will give you a professional view of your submission material and clear suggestions for any improvements.

1, 2, 3… Testing - Beta Reading Services

What is it?

Beta readers’ is just a fancy way to say test readers, really. Voracious readers who would love to give your work-in-progress a read and provide a neutral third-party opinion about it.

Just like beta testers test an app before it goes out into the world, a beta reader tests your work-in-progress (by reading it) and tells you about the ‘bugs’ so you can improve its readability, its usefulness and even its saleability.

We will give you a 1-page report that will tell you whether the story works, if it has promise and whether you should invest in the second and third drafts.

Why do I need it?

The fact is, you spend so much time on your own work that it sometimes becomes difficult to see it objectively— no matter how diligently you self-edit. These can be some of the outcomes (there are plenty more):

  • You describe events in a way that is clear to you but not clear to a reader who can’t see the pictures in your head.
  • You leave out vital steps in an explanation and don’t realize it, because you know what you mean.
  • The characters in your book (whether fictional, or real as in a memoir or non-fiction anecdote) are not convincing, because you know them so well you don’t realise you haven’t developed them thoroughly on paper.
  • You create anticipation or an expectation early in the book, but forget to deliver on it.

Our team of readers has varied interests, and we will match you with someone who is the right reader for your draft. We are as committed to your ideas as you are and we will give you targeted feedback that will point you in the right direction.

Manuscript Critique

What is it?

Many writers find they need holistic feedback on their manuscript before attempting a revision or submitting to an agent. When you purchase a manuscript critique, your editor will read your entire novel or nonfiction book and provide you with comprehensive editorial feedback addressing the manuscript’s strengths, weaknesses, and any specific concerns you have. The critique will take the form of an in-depth 5 page report, and you will have the opportunity to ask follow-up questions.

Why do I need it?

As a writer you might be too close to your book. In a manuscript critique, an editor will be able to;

  • Point out strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate big-picture elements like structure, pacing, point of view, and overall prose style.
  • Offer concrete suggestions for improving problem areas.
  • Address questions or concerns you may have about specific parts of the project, if you have sent those along with the manuscript.

A critique does not include a hands-on edit of your project. But it’s a terrific choice if you’re looking for a fresh set of eyes and straightforward feedback on where the manuscript stands—especially if you’re preparing to embark on revisions.

For works up to 60,000 words         Rs 10,000
