The Personal Essay

Do you believe in the power of amplifying important & contemporary topics? I do. This course is an introduction to writing non fiction. We will read, discuss, reflect, provide each other feedback, learn how to pitch stories that we resonate with and connect to. We will learn how to structure non-fiction writing and build a compelling narrative, creating a space that is both conducive and reflective to and of our writing practices.
In this course, participants will learn how to identify the main elements of a non fiction piece, how to structure different types of non fiction pieces, & identify their reader. The participants will leave the course with pointers to pitch to various publications, identify and emphasize their writing voice, and a portfolio of pieces spanning across genres in nonfiction that they are passionate about.
